Mental Health Support Initiative is a school club that seeks to act as a support group for people diagnosed/undiagnosed with mental illness and disorders. The purpose of the organization is to promote the awareness of mental health issues and provide necessary resources capable of engendering improved mental wellbeing for students and youths. We equally strive to aid in erasing the stigma that surrounds mental health illnesses. MHSI is solely an emotional support group that doesn’t seek to replace the efforts of professional help (therapy or medications).
The objectives of MHSI are to;
Raise the profile of mental wellbeing and mental health issues.
Provide support in form of friendship and companionship within her means to mentally challenged individuals
Identify and implement strategies and activities that will ensure early detection, quality, cost-effective and accessible care for those with mental health challenges.
To organize seminars, symposia, walks, talks and workshops to create awareness, disseminate information and build the capacity of volunteers and the general populace in preventing, managing and coping with mental illness.
Foster co-operation and communication between identified needy, and statutory and non-statutory bodies, government departments, health professional bodies, local authorities, service user forums, charitable organizations and regulatory bodies as relevant to the pursuance of the MHSI’s purpose.
Conduct relevant research, and share knowledge, skills, research findings, information, best practices and lessons learnt with relevant bodies.
To support parity with physical health in the development of policy and system reform.
Charitably mobilize resources for the management of Mental Health cases. For instance, raise funds and pay for services, items or consultancy arrangements as agreed by the Association assembly.
